Columbia Basin Trust Funding |
![]() |
Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs – CBT’s oldest programs – support projects identified as priorities within individual communities. The programs are designed to help address the needs of Basin communities. They are flexible and incorporate community-based funding decisions to better meet local priorities. The Regional District of East Kootenay delivers these programs in the East Kootenay region.
Community Initiatives Program
The Community Initiatives Program funds projects that are identified as priorities within the communities and rural areas of the Regional District of East Kootenay. The funding is allocated on a per capita basis between the Cities of Cranbrook, Fernie and Kimberley, Districts of Sparwood, Elkford and Invermere, Villages of Canal Flats and Radium Hot Springs, and Electoral Areas A, B, C, E, F, and G.
Affected Areas Program
The Affected Areas Program is designed to put funds back into the Basin for those communities most affected by dam construction under the Columbia River Treaty. The Program funds projects that meet priorities in communities which lie within 10 km of Lake Koocanusa and include the following:
· Electoral Area B: Jaffray, Galloway, Elko, Baynes Lake, Grasmere, and Newgate
· Portion of Electoral Area C: Wardner, Mayook and Bull River
The funding is allocated on a per capita plus base value per affected area basis.
Application Process
Application forms are available in January of each year. They are posted on the RDEK website and are available at local government offices throughout the Regional District of East Kootenay.
