Welcome to the source for information about the Fernie Alpine Resort Official Community Plan (OCP) Planning Process.

The Fernie Alpine Resort Official Community Plan review was initiated in cooperation with the Resort of the Canadian Rockies to incorporate proposed infill development and upgrades to transportation, water and sewer servicing, employee housing and trails policies.

An Open House was held November 1,2011 to begin the process of community consultation and receive input on the proposed amendments. The Open House in Fernie was attended by approximately 80 people. During the Open House, information was provided, and feedback gathered, on the planning process, the current policies within the Official Community Plan and the proposed locations of the density relocation. The Open House was the initial step of consultation.

Community consultations will continue this winter as the RDEK and the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies meet with community groups and associations, the City of Fernie, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and other agencies.

During the Open House, there were a number of poster boards on display. Copies of the poster boards are provided below.

RESORTS OF THE CANADIAN ROCKIES
The Fernie Alpine Resort OCP was prepared based on the 1998 Fernie Alpine Resort Master Plan. The planning process started in 1997 with public meetings held in 1997 and 1998. Subsequently, the RDEK requested provisions of the plan be incorporated into a statutory document in the form of an OCP. Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) is proposing that the Master Plan’s approved residential and commercial density be relocated from within the Village Core to alternate locations at the resort.

The residential/commercial relocation is proposed to be included in Phase 1 of development within the Official Community Plan.

Two Open Houses were held on February 20, 2012 to provide an opportunity to review the draft Official Community Plan. A brief presentation was made by RDEK Staff followed by an question and answer period. Approximately 50 people attended the February Open Houses. A comment form designed as an opportunity to present your views regarding the draft Official Community is available here. The deadline to return the form is April 10, 2012.
