How Much Does It Cost?
There is no charge for regular household garbage, yard and garden waste (under 6" in diameter), chipped green wood waste, auto batteries or propane tanks (under 100lbs).  User Fees do apply to some other items, and are in effect at the Cranbrook and Kimberley Transfer Stations and Central Subregion Landfill.

How Much Garbage Can I Take to the Transfer Station?
Waste must be hauled in pick-up truck sized loads or smaller. There is no limit on how much garbage you can take to the transfer station. Waste hauled in larger vehicles must be taken directly to the Central Subregion Landfill located approximately 12km north of Cranbrook on Highway 93/95.

What About My Recyclables?
Yellow coloured recycling bins are located at the entrance to the Transfer Station.  There are also yellow recycling bins in numerous locations throughout your community.  The yellow bins take mixed recyclables including all paper, cardboard, magazines, fax paper, envelopes, tin cans, aluminum cans, and plastic milk jugs. All yellow bins in the program are open to the public to use and can be found at schools, businesses, and other high visibility locations. Glass must be recycled in a special bin marked 'Glass Only'. Click here for locations. Plastics program will be coming soon. If you have questions, contact Loree Duczek, Communications Manager or call 489-2791 or 1-888-478-7335 or visit our recycling page.

Are There Any Special Hauling Requirements?
All loads being hauled to area transfer stations or landfills must be properly covered or secured.  Any loads arriving at the Cranbrook or Kimberley Transfer Station or Central Subregion Landfill are subject to DOUBLE CHARGES if they are not properly covered or secured.  This means waste must be in bags or boxes, tarped down, or hauled in a canopied vehicle.  This will ensure garbage and debris isn't littered along our roadways and highways.  Let's all make an effort to keep our roads and properties clean!

If you would like more information on the operation of the transfer stations, recycling, or solid waste management in general, please contact Loree Duczek, Communications Manager or call 250-489-2791 or toll-free 1-888-478-7335.
