Due to the Canada Post strike, and the subsequent disruption in mail service, a number of our processes are being impacted, including:
- This includes Short-Term Rental Temporary Use Permit Applications, Bylaw Amendments, Development Variance Permits, and Public Hearing Notices.
- Due to requirements under the provincial legislation and RDEK Bylaws that requires notices be mailed to specific properties, a postal strike makes it impossible for us to meet the legal requirement for public notification, so the processing of applications will experience delays and public hearings and other meetings with legal public notice requirements will not be able to be held during the strike.
- We will provide updated information on our website as we have it.
- Utility bills for our 3,000 RDEK water and sewer customers are due on the deadline, regardless of whether there is a disruption in mail service.
- Customers can view their accounts anytime on our online utility account portal, MyRDEK, which can be accessed from this website's main page by clicking on the “Utility Billing” link on the top right of the page.
- Customers without access to a computer can contact the finance department directly to determine the amount owing.
- Utility bills can be paid in the following ways:
- Via online banking
- By automatic withdrawal (contact us to set this up)
- Over the phone with a credit card by contacting our offices
- In person at our offices by cash, cheque, Visa, Mastercard, or debit.
Solid waste and other accounts receivable payments can be made in the following ways:
- In person by cash, cheque, Visa, Mastercard, or debit.
- Over the phone with a credit card.
- By EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer). Please contact the finance department for EFT information.
- Accounts payable vendors are being contacted to set up Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Cheques can also be picked up at our offices.
- If you are a vendor with the RDEK and have not yet been set up for EFT, please reach out to our Finance Department to learn more.
The RDEK often sends general information via unaddressed admail. Due to the postal strike, these notifications cannot sent (and any that may be in the postal system prior to the strike may be delivered after the strike is over).
There are several other ways to get these general updates, such as:
We will provide anticipated timelines for processes to return to normal once we know more; however, it may take some time following the end of the labour dispute for operations to return fully to normal.
