April 10, 2025 - The Water Quality Advisory has been RESCINDED for the Edgewater Water System. Regular water use can resume. The WQA was issued in February after turbidity levels spiked as a result of ice build up and fluctuations in the freeze-thaw cycle. At this time, the turbidity levels have returned to more normal conditions, so the WQA has been lifted. Our operators continuously monitor the conditions, and we do anticipate that turbidity levels may rise again as conditions warm up and spring run off gets fully underway. Should these seasonal turbidity levels rise again, a Water Quality Advisory may be re-issued at that time.
The source water intake for Edgewater is located in Lake Baptiste, approximately two kilometers southeast of town adjacent to the Elk Park Ranches. The water flows from Lake Baptiste, through the treatment plant, to steel reservoirs, and then on to consumers all using the force of gravity.
Edgewater water is disinfected with both UV and chlorine and is stored at the Hewitt Road reservoirs, which provide 1200m3 of treated storage. The RDEK has the capability to fully monitor the entire process through Edgewater’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system which alerts the operators of any potential problems.
