History

Yaqakxaqⱡamki Regional Park (Koocanusa Boat Launch) opened on July 1, 2011. The launch was built through funding from Teck. BC Hydro and the Columbia Basin Trust. The boat launch season opening and closure dates vary depending on water levels. Koocanusa Boat Launch is located on the north side of Kikomun Newgate Road; on the west side of Koocanusa Lake.

Location

Civic Address 2351 Kikomun Road

2.1 km west of the Crowsnest Highway (3) and Highway 95 junction. (Highway 3/93 Dairy Bar) turn onto Kikomun-Newgate Road. Follow for 7.2 km to a four way stop. Continue straight onto Teepee Creek Road for 4.4 km over the bridge and the boat launch will be on the right. (Teepee Creek Road turns into Kikomun Newgate Road)

Amenities

The amenities at Yaqakxaqⱡamki Boat Launch include a boat launch with floating docks, parking for vehicles with trailers, overflow parking for vehicles with no trailers and wheelchair accessible outhouse facilities.

Seasonal Hours

Operational season depends on water levels. Typically, from June to October.
7:00am - 10:00pm daily (gates are locked overnight)

Launch Etiquette
  • Prepare your boat for loading and unloading away from the ramp area
  • Have your passengers wait ashore- Do not congregate on the dock
  • Move your boat and vehicle away form the ramp and launch area as soon as possible
  • Do not litter or dispose of debris or waste.
  • Keep pets on leash and clean up after them

    
Note the following are not permitted:

  • Overnight camping and/or moorage
  • Commercial activity
  • Repair or servicing of watercraft of vehicles
  • No campfires
  • No fishing
  • No swimming

User Fees and Passes

All User fees collected go directly back into the operation and maintenance of the facility.

  • Resident Season Pass - $75 
    • Available to permanent residents and property owners from Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, and RDEK Electoral Areas A, B and C. Proof of residency or property ownership must be presented at the time of application.
  • Non-Resident Season Pass- $100
  • Day Pass - $15
    • A Day Pass allows the holder to launch and retrieve one watercraft from the ramp and to park one towing vehicle and one boat trailer in the Parking Area for one day, provided parking space is available.
  • Commuter Vehicle Pass/Second Vehicle - $10
    • All Commuter or Second vehicles (vehicles with no boat trailer) requires purchase of a parking pass.

A Season Pass allows the holder to launch and retrieve one watercraft from the ramp and to park one towing vehicle and one boat trailer in the Parking Area per day during the season, provided parking space is available.
 

Season Passes
Season passes can be purchased on site by cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard or by debit from our on-site contractor when open for the season.
 

Pre-Season
If you would like to purchase your season’s pass prior to opening, you may fill out a registration form. You will be contacted once it has been reviewed for payment options. Season Pass stickers will then be mailed after payment has been received.
