Jaffray Fire

In September 1995, the Regional District of East Kootenay, with the direction of founding Fire Chief John Betenia and community approval of RDEK bylaw opened the Jaffray Volunteer Fire Department.

The department has expanded and now has 21 firefighters and 5 Dispatchers with 13 of them being first responders.

The men and women of the Jaffray Volunteer Fire Department are truly committed to being a model of excellence in providing protective services through education, prevention and mitigation. It is a department dedicated to leadership that fosters community involvement, trust and innovation, and that is responsive to the needs and concerns of the community.

Under the leadership of Fire Chief Dave Boreen, the members of the Department practice regularly on Tuesday nights and take advantage of new training opportunities as they can.

Aside from their work on the fire services end of things, the members of the Jaffray and Baynes Lake Fire Departments work hand in hand to support the community, raise funds for local charities, host a curling bonspiel and much more.  Since 2006, they've raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and you can always find them participating in community events like the Fall Fair, Fire Prevention Week, Remembrance Day ceremonies and CP Holiday Train celebrations.
