Elections/Voting

A general local election is held every four years so that voters can choose the people who will represent them in local government. In the RDEK, this includes electing electoral area directors and school trustees.

On general voting day, eligible voters cast their ballots in favour of a candidate to represent their area. The RDEK is responsible for running the elections and providing information about when, where, and how to vote.

The 2026 General Local Elections will be held on October 17, 2026, with Advance Voting Opportunities held on October 7 & 13, 2026.
