Cold Spring Creek Debris Flow Mitigation Project Community Meeting in the Works

The RDEK will be hosting a community information meeting later this month to provide an update on the Cold Spring Creek Debris Flow Mitigation Project in Fairmont Hot Springs.

“It has been some time since we held a meeting with the community regarding this project, and with construction now underway, we want to have the opportunity to not only share the latest project information, but to be able to answer questions as well,” says Electoral Area F Director Susan Clovechok. The meeting will begin with presentations and a project update and then will be open for questions and answers.

The meeting will be held on November 30 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the Cedar Room at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. While the meeting won’t be streamed, it will be recorded and posted on the project page.  Anyone unable to attend the meeting, but with questions they would like answered is invited to submit questions in advance until 5pm on November 29.  The link is available on the project page: engage.rdek.bc.ca/debris.

The project page also includes newsletters, project updates and other information related to the Cold Spring Creek Debris Flow Mitigation Project and the Fairmont Flood and Landslide Service.

The $13.6 million Cold Spring Creek project includes construction of a large debris flow barrier that is designed to contain between 68,000 to 90,000 cubic meters of debris flow material which is roughly a 100 to 300 year event. The project will significantly reduce the debris flow risk in the community and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
