Cold Spring Creek Debris Flow Mitigation Project Reaches Substantial Completion

The Cold Spring Creek Debris Flow Mitigation Project has reached a significant milestone.

“We held a public information meeting this week to share the latest construction updates and provide details on the project costs and financial details, and were excited to share the project has reached substantial completion,” says Electoral Area F Director Susan Clovechok. “While there is still additional work required before full and final completion, this stage is significant for the community as the new barrier is now fully functional in the event of a debris event.”

The project area remains an active construction site and is closed to public access as there are a number of unseen safety hazards. “We cannot stress enough the importance of people staying out of the work area.  It is signed and fenced, and we are asking people to respect the closure and stay out,” adds Clovechok.

Once the weather conditions improve in spring, the insulation covering the structure during the cold winter months will be removed. Work will resume on railings, minor earthworks, seeding and site clean-up. Additional permanent fencing will also be installed on the barrier itself.

Grant funding has covered over 98% of the $13.6 million Cold Spring Creek project, which includes construction of a large debris flow barrier that will significantly reduce the debris flow risk in the community. Final completion is anticipated in early summer 2025.
