The Evacuation Alerts for the Madias Creek wildfire have been rescinded today as crews continue to make progress.
“Our crews continue to do regular patrols to identify and deal with hot spots within the fire’s perimeter,” says Regional Emergency Operations Centre Information Officer, Loree Duczek. “Over the past few days we have had some challenging weather conditions including strong sustained winds and even stronger gusts and the fire has stayed within it’s existing boundaries and has not experienced any growth.”
The fire is currently classified as Being Held. Following the patrols this morning, and in conjunction with the BC Wildfire Service, the recommendation has been made to lift the Alert.
The Evacuation Alert within the RDEK affected 73 civic addresses in the Crooked Tree and Elkhorn areas. A copy of the Alert and associated map can be found on the Evacuation Alerts and Orders page on www.rdek.bc.ca.
The Evacuation Alert issued by the ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation Chief and Council for the entirety of the ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation reserve is also being rescinded.
Elsewhere in the RDEK, the Evacuation Orders for 6 properties in the Whiteswan Area and 9 properties in the Palliser / Cross River area remain in effect.
The latest updates on the fire can be found on www.bcwildfire.ca.
