Recycle BC Depot at Cranbrook Transfer Station to be Closed Tues-Friday for Paving

The Recycle BC Depot at the Cranbrook Transfer Station will be closed over the next few days as crews work to complete paving of the recycling area.

“We have just been notified by the contactor that the paving crew is ready to begin, so the recycling area will be closed Tuesday through Friday,” explains Environmental Services Manager, Kevin Paterson.

The Transfer Station itself will remain open and there are no interruptions in service anticipated as a result of the paving, which will only affect the Recycle BC residential recycling area.

While the yellow commercial recycling bins will be open, they only take paper, cardboard, tin cans and plastics with a number 1 to 6.  The RDEK is asking residents with residential recycling to hold-off on visiting the site until the Recycle BC Depot re-opens.

“Having pavement in the recycling area will improve residents’ access to the bins year-round, as they will no longer have to deal with mud in and around the bins.  We’ve had great feedback to the paving at our other sites and are excited to see the recycling area in Cranbrook paved this week,” adds Paterson.

The paving is expected to be completed Friday night, with the recycling area scheduled to re-open at 8:30am Saturday morning.
