Members of the South Country Fire Departments responded to a train car fire in Jaffray early this (Sunday) morning.
“The fire was confined to one engine and the rail company was able to stop the train near a crossing giving us immediate access to the scene,” explains Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire & Rescue Chief Michael Hockley. “Our members immediately worked to extinguish the fire and there is no risk of spread beyond the one affected engine.”
A total of 11 firefighters responded to the fire with three pieces of apparatus.
The cause of the fire is under investigation; however, is not considered suspicious in nature.
